Movies Heading Your Way

Do you feel lucky, punk?

The trailer for Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino is out and boy does he look mad. He’s still got it at 78 and I’d love to see someone prank call this pensioner. He would annihilate you! Gran Torino, will probably be his last acting role and sees him play a disgruntled Korean War vet who sets out to reform his neighbour, a pesky teenager, after he tried to steal his prized possession: his 1972 Gran Torino. A ticked off Eastwoood makes great viewing and I smell another Oscar.

A teaser for the new Tom Hanks movie, Angels and Demons, has also popped up. Interesting news, for those who liked The Da Vinci Code. In “Angels”, Hanks chases around the Illuminati rascals and Ewan McGregor co-stars as a priest. Weird casting but what do I know?

King Of The Hill Dethroned
In other news. Fox is not going to renew King of The Hill for another season. All together now, boooo! All good things must come to an end, I suppose, but fret not. The show’s only in season 12 on FX so we’ve got a lot to come from Hank and the gang. Yah! There’s more good news.  American Dad has been picked up for a fifth season and there’s a new animated sitcom coming out from Mike Judge, called The Goode Family. So out with the old and in with the new. Stay tuned for American Dad S4 making its way to our screens, early next year on FX. 2009 is looking good.

Catch King of the Hill whilst you can. Saturdays at 8pm on FX.

Brand Quits

Bye Bye FellaHow did it come to this? How did one prank call end up with suspensions and Russell Brand walking away from his job? Do people really care so much about David Sachs? Ok, let’s look at the facts. BBC aired the call and only had two complaints on the night. Fact.  Yet four days and a band wagon later there’s 180,000 complaints and a morally outraged granddaughter.  But let me ask you, how shocked could someone who dances for the Satanic Sluts really be? Honestly. It’s gone a bit too far really. If they didn’t apologise then fair enough but they did. So what’s the big deal? Well Russ I wish you luck, not that you’re going to need it. I sense you’re off to the States for a bit, to rev up that bad boy thing you’ve got going.

Preacher Set To Rise

Good news folks. The comic book, The Preacher, is set to make its way to the big screen with Sam Mendes at the helm.  Finally! For the un-ordained, the comic’s about a Texan preacher called Jesse; who’s possessed by a supernatural entity and sets out across America to find God; with a former girlfriend and a hard-drinking Irish vampire along for the ride. Oh and did I mention, he’s looking for God ‘cos Jesse feels he’s abandoned his duties in heaven and wants to kick his butt as negligence shall not be tolerated! No writers are on board yet but I just hope they get the cast right.  I see Nic Cage, as the crazy preacher and Colin Farrell as the vamp. No?  Well who do you reckon?

In other comic news, Marvel’s Stan Lee has expressed a desire to turn David and Victoria Beckham into super heroes. Pardon, what was that? Ok, it worked with Pamela Anderson with Stripperella but Posh and Becks? How will that work? What powers could they have? Will Vic chuck her super heel at people? Send in your suggestions for Posh and Becks super powers. But, could it be that Stan’s run out of ideas?

Doctor Who? All Over Again

Adios AmigoBad news for all you Doctor fans out there. David Tennant has dropped the bomb that he’s leaving the show. But this won’t happen until 2010 so don’t fret just yet. He’s still going to feature in four specials planned in 2009.  So it’s farewell David and hello...?

Rumour has it that a potential doctor could be Russell Tovey (History Boys), who also featured in a recent episode.  Could be just talk as Russell’s a wee bit young and doesn’t quite have that crazy eye look thing going on that most “Docs” seem to have. Anyway, who do you guys reckon should be the new Doctor? Answers on a postcard please.

Who Is Spartacus

I'm SpartacusNews just in; Spidey director Sam Raimi is set to produce a Spartacus TV series for Starz. But forget the 1960’s Kirk Douglas style as the show’s going for a more updated look. Amen to that as, let’s face it, the old one was a bit camp. Raimi is going for the Sin City/ 300 graphic novel look and is set on casting fresh-faced unknowns.

So get to the gym as that dream of landing a sword wielding role just got real. At the helm will be writer- director Steven S. Deknight whose credits include Buffy The Vampire Slayer and the upcoming Dollhouse.

Britney, Lindsay And Paris With The Ex-List
Frenemies Forever

Bad Day for The Ex-list as CBS pulls the plug on the comedy after 4 episodes. Not surprising considering the plot which revolves around a woman who returns to past relationships after a medium tells her she has already dated her future husband. Riiight, as you do.

And finally HBO is interested in making an Ugly Betty/Friends-esque sitcom with reformed party girls Britney, Lindsay and Paris. Hmmm take this one as you wish...

ABC Pushes Daisies Whilst CBS Goes Back To “The Place”

Good day for Marvel as two stars have confirmed their future in Iron Man 2 and The Avengers, Robert Downey Jr.  and Don Cheadle will star as Tony Stark and Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes in the upcoming movies.

Another good’en for ABC as Pushing Daisies will be aired instead of a 30 min Obama campaign ad. I’m all for making election vids but 30 minutes long? Come on mate it’s going to be a landslide victory.  Also, it’s probably no biggie as Obama’s going to be on all the other networks anyway. So why the boohoo from Obama’s reps?

And finally good news for all you Melrose Place fans out there! CW and CBS are looking into doing an updated version of the show in the 90210 fashion i.e. get a younger and better looking cast in. But will there be any room for landlady Heather?

And For More Wizarding Fun...
The trailer for the new Harry Potter movie is out! Hooray! Harry’s looking a bit more daper and mature and so he should as a war against He-Who-Must- Not -Be –Named is no laughing matter. Ralph Fiennes looks awesome as the evil one and for all you Ralph haters who screamed bloody murder when he cast. Who’s laughing now! Anyho, enough preamble, watch and discuss it. Then tell me how Jedi I am for bringing it to you.

Speaking Of All Things Scary...

Britney Spears is to star in a biopic of her life! Film bosses are planning to produce a “dark and gritty” film about the singer’s rise to fame and subsequent breakdown. But what I want to know is how gritty could it be growing up in the Mickey Mouse Club? The movie is likely to include Britney’s infamous head- shaving incident. Do we care? No, but I just don’t want to miss the next one. I mean, what better way to get over a breakdown than get your own movie to chuck you right back into the circus. I sense trouble ahead, oh happy days.

With Halloween On It's Way
Charlie Brooker’s zombie fest thriller, Dead Set, is out! The five- part drama set in the Big Brother house, involves an outbreak which strands the housemates inside the house. Oh if only that could have happened with Jade Goody in there. Battling it out and chopping heads off the undead, is Jamie Winston, who stars as a feisty runner. Don’t start watching Dead Set thinking you’re going to get a Shaun of the Dead- esque type zombie comedy ‘cos you’ll be in for a shock. Although funny, it’s still gory and scary as hell. You have been warned.

Boldly Going Nowhere Lands Its Captain

Fox’s intergalactic space comedy, Boldly Going Nowhere, has got me really excited. Not only is the plot brilliant but it’s heading into warp speed after landing its fearless leader.Boldly” is about the everyday life of a spaceship captain, following what happens in-between missions.  How genius is that? You kinda always wondered how Spock et al kept themselves busy. You never knew it could have been bare back wrestling in a pit of space leeches or intergalactic chicken with passing ships.  Well those are just my thoughts. Anyway, the role of the rogue captain goes to Ben Koldyke, the guy who bought you the Star Wars parody, Jedi Gym. If you haven’t seen it, watch it ‘cos it’s absolutely top draw. And with the trio behind the dark comedy, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, at the helm “Boldly” shouldn’t disappoint either.

FX Signals New Era With Sketch Show

The Pimp Daddy

Boy, isn’t FX breaking out of the box at the moment? Not content with showing quality first run US dramas but now they are making top shows as well! There’s a new satirical sketch show coming your way, in 2009, called No Signal and it’s gonna be a stonker. Nothing will be safe as it will poke fun at all things TV from documentaries to the news channels and of course reality TV.  There's skits like America’s Next Serial Killer, where 14 crazies compete to win the title; and a Pimp My Wife one with DJ Spoony that will have you in hysterics.  With stand- up comic Pete Cain putting ink to paper, this show is gonna be the balls! You heard it here first!
