AMERICA REMASTERED
If you haven't noticed by now, the Brits have mastered the art of making television. The Americans too have mastered the art of making television.

However as of late, the US have mastered the art of remastering television. Why one may ask? Well, I don't have the answer but a possible theory. Reality TV is killing creativity. Before reality shows, America was producing some of the best on-screen entertainment such as Seinfeld, Friends, Murder She Wrote, Diagnosis Murder, Cheers, MacGyver...while across the pond, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, Only Fools and Horses, Dr. Who were some of the most watched shows in the UK. Then came Pop Idol. Big Brother, Dancing on Lava (if only). The states, once the superpower of television shortly followed in the reality trend with American Idol and so on. But the Brits were still creating new, innovative programming with the likes of The Office, Life on Mars, Dr. Who with David Tenant. But American networks seemed to run out of ideas, way before the strike took place. And viewers were tuning into BBC America more regularly. I'll take my hat off to them for bringing us 24, Lost and the first season of Prison Break, but you don't see Jasper Carrott saving Birmingham from terrorists because Jack Bauer did it in LA. Having said that, the US remake of the Office is quite funny. And I'm torn between Life on Mars UK and the US version (which will be airing on FX next month). Recently I’ve been watching Weeds and True Blood on FX, both excellent shows in my opinion. Which just proves that there are creative minds with good ideas still out there, so scrap reality TV and stop with the remakes! Woo! And to top it all off, word on the street is the renowned crime drama Prime Suspect which starred Helen Mirren will be translated into American...why god, why? What’s next? American actors faking British accents...oh wait.
